Nice property, customer service not up to par

Not very impressed for a property that bills itself as the "preeminent luxury resort destination on the East Coast." About average, in most respects, to any other hotel in this class. Service, below average; property, above average. -The general attitude of the staff does not convey luxury, rather it makes you feel unwelcome at times. -Front desk staff, especially younger gentleman, seem to lack authority or imagination on how to solve basic issues such as a solution to breakfast before 0700, or with housekeeping failing to service room until after 1700 (we had to call to inquire about housekeeping). Various staff members used the phrase "we are fully committed" on multiple occasions to pompously convey that they were short staffed/overwhelmed. Again, makes you feel unwelcome and as if you weren't a paying customer. I understand that Christmas time may mean we get the "B" team, however I was surprised when the front desk staff was unwilling to help in either case. Since the younger gentleman at information ended the discussion abruptly when we asked for options before 0700, we ended up going to the grocery store for oatmeal and berries. Again, not a huge deal, except this hotel claims to be in the top tier but can't solve basic issues. We have stayed at 4 and 5 star hotels in the U.S., Asia, and Europe, and any hotel in this class would have offered something simple to help solve our issue. -Rooms are nice, newly renovated, bed is comfortable. What you would expect for this "class" of hotel. A bit dusty, but clean overall. -Elizabeth, at Becca, really redeemed the lackluster experience (halfway through a short three day stay). She was attentive, professional, and exhibited the level of customer service you would expect at this type of property. She had great recommendations on drinks and food. She went above and beyond to prepare the best mocktails I have ever had. -Valet service is good. We haven't had to wait long for our vehicle, even when they have been very busy. I wouldn't go out of my way to stay here again, but I'd go out of my way to get helped by Elizabeth again!

Elite Christmas Party

I have to start this review with the word WOW! What an amazing time my staff and I had at the Cavalier Hotel & Beach Club. Jessica Brandon was our event planner and she definitely gave us an Elite event. From the moment we arrived the staff was professional and ready to cater to us at the highest level. The Christmas decorations was so tasteful done and of the best quality. Thank you Javier Espinoza for our table decor just beautiful! Our servers and bartender was so kind and ready to take care of us with anything we needed. I could just go on and on about how special everything was and magically everyone made it for us. If I could give them ten stars I would. We will be back and from the Elite team we thank you and Merry Christmas

Five star review

We visited The Cavalier this weekend and had an amazing experience. I've stayed at maybe 4-5 star hotels and rarely did you feel the warmth of the staff (mostly). We were traveling approximately four hours in traffic to get to the hotel so I phoned the hotel prior to advise them that I may be arriving earlier. The wonderful check-in specialist (Danae) who answered the phone as well as greeted us on our arrival was more than accommodating. Danae was very kind, understanding, professional, and reassuring that she was there to help. Again I've visited many four to five star hotels/resorts and Danae's level of customer service has been the best one yet and will be hard to top. We arrived just in time to quickly freshen up from our long drive for 3pm reservation in the Raleigh Room for "high tea." The tea selection was great, the snacks were a delight but the service was lackluster at best. Maybe they were just having a bad day but not from what I've heard from other guests. The hosts at the Becca room were always pleasant and delightful. They always greeted us with warmth any time we exited the elevators or asked questions. On one of the evenings we were able to visit the Hunt Room for dinner and libations. James the bartender and his team were great and fun to be around. The drinks were amazing and the food hit the spot. The ambiance definitely play into the overall experience of the evening. If you are an 'old fashioned' drinker like myself definitely request one or ten from James. The room was beautiful, cozy and luxurious. Oftentimes pictures from websites often embellish the actual condition but I was not at all disappointed. The room was worth every cent and more. If you're in the va beach or surrounding area I'd recommend staying at The Historic Cavalier Hotel and Resort. You won't regret it

Not impressed

Unfortunately we planned our stay around the house restaurant "Becca". The restaurant was disappointing to say the least. When you are paying $300 (off season) a night for a room you expect a little more
