30th Anniversary weekend

Before we went to the cavalier I emailed them about it being our 30th Anniversary and that I wanted to make sure we weren't looking at a parking lot from our window. No one ever responded to my email. So I started calling but no one answered a few times. So the great service they advertised was questionable. I finally got someone on the phone and told them we were celebrating our 30th and would like a room with some sort of a view not a parking lot. They say oh yes and we will help u celebrate your anniversary! Ok so I've seen some reviewers say they got flowers and candy in their rooms etc. we get there to check in room wasn't ready for 3 hours and when we finally got to it no worries not a parking lot just the roof with all the hvac units. No flowers no nada. Needless to say I was highly disappointed and my husband was annoyed. We went back to lobby and spoke w Nick Nations the manager. He said no more rooms available and then went back and checked and saw that I did call and notes were made about our anniv and the room and that they had totally dropped the ball. He took $100 off a night and sent champagne to the room. Nice enough but again high quality of service not so high. It's a pretty place - Becca's was good for dinner. I wouldn't pay the weekend prices again however. Maybe a weekday visit

Elegant and fun!

We stayed here and loved it! For so long, there has been no hotels of this caliber in Virginia Beach and we are thrilled that the Cavalier has been renovated. We arrived early and went straight to the beach and pool. You can walk or take the chauffeured extra large golf cart. Complimentary chairs and towels were provided on the beach, so no need to bring your own. We had a great lunch and some great drinks at the poolside bar/restaurant. The pool area is beautiful. The only drawback was that the pool water was ice cold in late June. We would have appreciated some slight heating of the water. (Note, there is NO baby pool, just the main pool. While there were a couple of kids, most were on the beach. It felt very much like a grown-up area.) We also enjoyed the beautiful indoor pool, the spa and the restaurants. The staff was friendly. The rooms were lovely, not your typical hotel room. But what we really loved is the overall retro feel of the hotel, like you were stepping back into 1922. We will definitely be returning. Great place for a romantic getaway. I would to spend the money on bringing small children here. A couple of things: - You MUST valet park your car. Plan accordingly. - We paid extra for a high floor room, and were placed on the 3rd floor at 4:02 pm without explanation or refund for what we paid. We brought this to the front desk's attention, but nothing was done. The low floor meant we were woken at 7:00 am by a landscaper doing some blowing outside. (WHY?!? That noise should be reserved for later times.) If you reserve a high floor, make sure they give it to you. I should have been more pushy. - Wait was a little long for food at Becca, but we didn't mind. Overall, a great place to stay

Renovated property but improvements are still needed

I reviewed this property a year ago when it just opened. At the time I noted that staff training was needed. I have now paid another visit to this property and found the same problem. The building is nicely renovated, but the staff are lacking in terms of the customer service one would expect for rooms that are priced at the top of the market. If this hotel aspires to be top flight they need to teach the staff, especially the front desk, the skills needed for the hospitality industry. For example, as a frequent guest to Marriott properties I expected the front desk to address my requests and recognize my frequent guest status. None of this occurred(and I see from other reviews that I am not the only one to raise the issue). I have learned there is a new manager of the property. I hope their priority is to improve the guest experience. It is a shame when a guest is left with a bad taste in their mouth for a property as nice as this one could be, due to personnel issues which should have been dealt with and weren't

Six star hotel with one exception.

As a titanium Marriott member just stayed here 3 nights. The hotel and facilities are beyond gorgeous. The renovation was so impressive we bought the cavalier hotel book about the restoration. Beach club is beautiful and the manger Andrew had this place running perfect with smiling cheerful employees even in the heat. Rob and the valets and doormen also excellent. Hunt room managed by Nick also provides excellent service and food. We were impressed. Only big negative, what the heck is going on with the signature restaurant . All the guests at the beach club were commenting how mixed up and poor service was with long delays at Becca and no manager in sight. Bad when becca is sadly the negative talk amongst guests. The manger of the beach club should give becca make over with service, again Andrew was excellent!
